Darcy
Hey! I’m Darcy. I grew up on a farm in Firdale, MB. I attended Austin and MacGregor school and enjoyed growing up in a rural area. I currently live in Killarney, Manitoba and am a Grade 6 teacher. I enjoy teaching, and making connections with my students. I teach with my wife Andrea, and we have a beautiful daughter, named Ashlyn.
I graduated from Brandon University with a Bachelor’s of Education degree. From there, I moved to the Middle East and enjoyed the life of international teaching for three years. In this time I was able to travel to 38 different countries, and experienced a different way of living. This is where I developed my love for traveling, and unique experiences. A few travel highlights included going to the top of the Burj Khalifa, riding a camel to the Pyramids of Egypt, and swimming with sharks in the Philippines. Europe is one of my favorite travel destinations! While traveling, this is where I became interested in cooking, trying different foods and staying in unique accommodations! I had the chance to experience mulled wine in Germany, crocodile and snake in vietnam, and desert camping in Wadi Rum in Jordan. All these travel experiences led me to creating a unique space and experience for people to enjoy at Lake of the Prairies.
For traveling, I love to relax on a beach, experience new cities, and walk the cobblestone streets of Europe. I’m a huge Winnipeg Jets fan, and enjoy watching a game any chance that I can get! I developed an interest in hunting growing up on the farm and this is still a favorite hobby of mine to this day. It's a hobby that lets me spend time with my dad, brothers, and brother in law. In the winter you can find me in a curling rink, as I love to curl and bonspiel!
MEET THE TEAM
Candace
Candace and Joel have called Shoal Lake, MB their home most of their lives and returned after reconnecting as adults, deciding to build a family in the rural community. Candace has been providing physiotherapy services to the surrounding areas since 2014 and five years ago took over the private physiotherapy clinic in Shoal Lake. She loves her career, “being able to build positive relationships with my clients is probably my favourite part of the job, I laugh a lot at work”. When she is not helping people with their various injuries she loves gardening as well as reading, snowboarding, and spending time with her friends and family.
Joel is employed by Nutrien at the Rocanville, SK, potash mine. As someone who likes to stay busy he often fills his days off with hobby farming, projects around the house, golfing, ice fishing, playing rec hockey and watching sports. Since having children he has loved being involved in their various activities such as baseball and hockey.
Winter is a favourite time for Candace and Joel at Lake of the Prairies - Joel has spent countless days on the ice, fishing with his Grandfather, father and now his own boys. Candace’s love of snowboarding started at the Assessippi Ski Area and she has found so much joy in watching their kids learn to love downhill skiing there as well. After enough practice locally they were able to take their kids on their first ski holiday in the rockies.
Candace and Joel have four beautiful children Bailey (17), Nixen (8), Kyler (6) and Taev (2). They keep Candace and Joel busy running, whether it’s to volleyball, tournaments, hockey games, or playdates. Despite their busy lives Joel and Candace still manage to find time for family dinners and bedtime stories.
